Scholarships The following scholarships and awards are available to new and current residents of The Kensington Colleges. For information on all other scholarships available to prospective and current UNSW students visit the UNSW Scholarships website and click on Future and Current Students.
Academic Achievement Awards (AAA) - Available to new residents only The Kensington Colleges will guarantee a residential place in one of its three Colleges on campus to AAA recipients in the outer Sydney metropolitan and outside Sydney areas who accept a place at UNSW. However, due to strong demand for College places, recipients should complete and return an application for the Colleges (click on the How to Apply link and click on Download an Application Form) prior to 20th November, 2009.
Places cannot be guaranteed if a College application is not received by that date. AAA applicants may also be required to attend a college interview.

The Mathews Scholarship - Available to current residents only The Mathews Scholarship is awarded for the best academic performance in the previous year by a resident of one of The Kensington Colleges in her/his first year of undergraduate study at the University of New South Wales. 1. A scholarship shall be awarded annually and known as the Mathews Scholarship in honour of the memory of the late Dr Frank Mathews. 2. The value of the Scholarship shall be determined by the University. The current value of the Scholarship is $1,500 and is credited to the resident’s account for accommodation costs. 3. The Mathews Scholarship shall be awarded for the best academic performance in a year by a resident of The Kensington Colleges enrolled that year, for the first time, in the first year of an undergraduate course at the University of New South Wales. The University may decide that the prize should not be awarded in a particular year because there is no candidate of sufficient merit. The award is made in the following year. The recipients must therefore be undergraduate students who have returned to residence in the Colleges for a further annual term. 4. The prize may be shared by more than one resident if the University so decides. 5. The prize shall be awarded after considering recommendations made by Executive of the Academic Council. The decision is normally based on the identification of the candidate with the highest average mark. The Fell Scholarship - Available to current residents only The Fell Scholarship is awarded to one returning resident in each of the three colleges who during the previous year has shown the best academic performance in her/his second or later year at university. The value of the Scholarship is $650 and is credited to the residents account for accommodation costs. ACCESS Scheme Accommodation Scholarship - Available to new residents The Access Scheme Accommodation Scholarship provides up to a maximum of 50% of the accommodation fee for six first year ACCESS students at the beginning of each academic year. The duration of the scholarship is one year. Preference is given to applicants who have experienced one or more of the following educational disadvantages: * Financial hardship * Rural isolation * Home environment detrimental to study; or * Other proven disadvantage To apply for the ACCESS Scheme Accommodation Scholarship contact the UNSW Equity and Diversity Office on 9385 5434 or email equity-diversity@unsw.edu.au
Applicants must also fill in an Application For Residence for The Kensington Colleges. The Alumni Association Scholarship - Available to new residents only The UNSW Alumni Association offers scholarships of up to $1,500 pa to eligible full-time undergraduate students who are children of alumni. The Philip Baxter Rural Engineering Residential Scholarship - Available to new residents only This Residential Scholarship has been established to assist recipients of a scholarship within the Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarship Program with accommodation costs at Philip Baxter College (UNSW), and is tenable for up to four years.
The Residential Scholarship is valued at $3,000 per annum, payable as two credit notes of $1,500 redeemable at the start of Session One and Two. The credit notes are only redeemable for accommodation expenses at the Philip Baxter College (UNSW).
Applicants will be assessed on the basis of academic merit, interview performance, and their Kensington Colleges application. Consideration may be given to financial need.
How To Apply:
1. Submit an application for the Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarship Program by the closing date and tick the box indicating that you would like to be considered for the Residential Scholarship.
2. Submit an application for College accommodation to The Kensington Colleges by October (mid-November at the latest) noting a preference for Philip Baxter College, and that you have applied for a scholarship within the Faculty of Engineering Rural Scholarship Program.

The Kensington Colleges Alliance Catering Scholarship - Available to current residents only The Kensington Colleges Catering Contractor, 'Alliance Catering' (part of the Spotless Services Group) has generously provided an amount of $10,000 each year as a scholarship to be awarded to one returning resident or divided between several returning residents on the basis of financial hardship.
Payment of Scholarship:
The amount will be awarded to the resident for the whole year, but paid in half as a credit towards accommodation fees for each Session.
The resident awarded the scholarship must pay their college fees in full before week 12 of each Session, otherwise they will forfeit the scholarship. If a resident wishes to enter into an installment plan, they must meet the payments on the installment plan otherwise they will forfeit the scholarship.
Selection of Scholar(s):
The Alliance Catering Scholarship(s) will be awarded by a Selection Committee, convened by the General Manager and Heads of Colleges.
How To Apply:
Residents intending to return to College in the following year should apply in writing to their Head of College before 31 October by completing the Application Form and stating why they require the financial benefit.
The Heads of Colleges will bring applications to the selection committee in November so the applicant/s selected can be notified before the end of session.
