Sport

Each year, Baxter College contests for the prestigious male and female inter-college sports shield. This competition involves male and female Baxter teams competing against the other UNSW colleges in a wide range of sports. Sports that are played include:

  • AFL
  • Basketball
  • Cricket
  • Cross Country
  • Hockey
  • Netball
  • Rugby League
  • Rugby Union
  • Soccer
  • Squash
  • Tennis
  • Touch Football
  • Volleyball
  • Water polo

The inter-college sports ball at the end of the year is the night when the trophies for each sport and overall winning college are awarded. At the Baxter Valedictory Dinner, awards are presented to residents for their contribution to specific sports. The Baxter male and female sports person of year are also named and awarded for their excellence in a range of sports.

In 2008, Baxter College men dominated taking the sports shield in style. The ladies held firm but in the end they had to settle with a close second. This year we are proud to declare that both the Baxter ladies and gentlemen are proving the strength and character of Baxter with the lead in this year’s competition in both sexes. And there is no doubt the enthusiastic support from the side line is having a great effect. Hoot Roar!

On a more informal note, Baxter College contributes a number of teams in the local mixed touch football, soccer and ultimate Frisbee competition. Residents also often enjoy the opportunity to play some soccer or kick a football on our college lawn.
