Our Colleges

TKC comprises of three individual residential colleges, Basser, Philip Baxter and Goldstein. Each College has its own unique story and character, but what they have in common is a close knit student community centred around academic excellence. We encourage you to visit the individual College websites and become familiar with what each one has on offer.

Goldstein College was opened in 1964 and houses 74 student residents and 4 resident academic staff. Goldstein has 2 buildings, the North Hall and South Hall; separated by a courtyard with several picnic tables and bounded by large trees. Room sizes are approximately 10 square metres. Goldstein College also houses the central Dining Hall, which can seat up to 450 people.

In 1965 the Goldstein Dining Hall was awarded the Sir John Sulman Medal for architecture, with the judges noting it as a powerful and satisfying building which is a landmark in Australian university architecture. The building follows the then new "truthful" approach in architecture, in which bricks and concrete are used in their natural state.

Established in 1959 Basser is the oldest residential college on the University campus. It provides accommodation for 132 residents and 6 residential academic staff. The bedrooms, each with its own hand basin, are built around two grassed courtyards and connected by balconies.

Basser is the most centrally located of all the University colleges, having easy access to both upper and lower campuses. Room sizes vary between 8 to 14 square metres.

Established in 1966 Philip Baxter College is the largest of the Kensington Colleges and houses 209 student residents and 8 resident academic staff. Baxter is sub-divided into 3 connected wings known as A-Block, B-Block and C-Block. Each block contains several residential floors accommodating 14 to 31 students. There are common rooms and facilities adjacent to the Baxter Lawn, which is surrounded on three sides by student rooms and is often the site for college BBQs and group social activities. Room sizes vary between 11 to 13 square metres.
