Benefits of living on campus
The colleges are in the grounds of UNSW Kensington Campus and residents have ready access to the library, lecture and tutorial rooms, and other University facilities. The UNSW Lifestyle Centre and sporting grounds are close by and public transport is nearby, and there is easy access to the city, several suburban shopping centres, and beaches.
Residents of The Kensington Colleges benefit from a friendly and relaxed environment, which is conducive to academic achievement and personal growth. Students living in our community have a strong social network from the time they arrive at college. As a resident of TKC you will have a unique opportunity to enrich your university experience with a variety of academic, social and cultural events, along with numerous sporting activities.
Accommodation and Services
Accommodation consists of over 530 individual rooms, comfortably furnished with a single bed, desk, wardrobe, book shelf, chair and all rooms have wireless internet. Some rooms have ensuite bathrooms, a tariff increase is applied for these. Each college has a number of communal bathrooms, common rooms, study rooms and a music room.
All rooms are serviced by cleaners regularly and residents supply and maintain thier own bed linens and towels. Coin-operated washing machines and dryers are also available in each building for all other student laundry.
Included in the price of accommodation residents are provided with all meals during session time. Residents are also able to attend specially catered functions each session as part of the Colleges' social calendar. With access to these convenient services our residents have more time to concentrate on their studies and getting the most out of their time at UNSW.
Pastoral and Academic Support
The transition from secondary school to university study is, for most, a challenging time, and we believe that students need all the help we can give them in making the adjustment (both personal, social and academic). Not only will we provide academic assistance in as many areas of study as possible, we also assign each first-year student to the general care of a Resident Fellow. Senior residents are also available to assist freshers with their studies.
While all meals are provided in college, a full kitchen is avaiable in the main common room of each college to facilitate the very enjoyable and social activity of cooking together from time to time.
