Basser College resident Gabrielle King has won the Individual Youth/Girls - Olympic Class Single Handed title at the 2008 Women's Laser Radial World Championship held in Auckland in March. Gabrielle has sailed laser radials (14ft fiber glass vessels) for ten years and has competed for the last five. She beat stiff competition for the title from across the globe with competitors from Europe, USA and Asia.
